Caleb S. Angevine was a partner in the famous menagerie, June, Titus, Angevine & Co., part of the New York Zoological Institute, existing until 1842. These owners and a few others were called Flatfoots in reference to their attempts to create a monopoly in the menagerie and circus business. Titus and Angevine were directors of the Zoological Institute. Circushistory.org contains more detailed information on this partnership and their menagerie.

"DEATH OF THE GIRAFFE. - We regret to state, says the Wayne county (Indiana) Recorder, that the giraffe belonging to the Menagerie of Messrs. June, Titus, Angevine & Co. is dead. On the day of the exhibition at this place, shortly after it was let out of its cage, it suddenly became unwell, apparently lost the powers of its limbs, and fell to the ground. The next day, the animal died, and its relations upon the plains of Africa may find a sad consolation in knowing that every respect and attention was paid to the remains."
